Who doesn’t love a side-scroller? This is an arcade-only game. Hit a button to trigger finger cramp. Twelve-year-old me had this as my mantra, and it was an absolute joy. The side-scrolling shooter is still something I love to play twenty years later. This is The Cotton Reboot!. It’s colorful, frantic and addictive. For a while, it has been infusing flashy objects into the retinas of my eyes. You will be eager to learn more about this awesome little blaster.
Reboot is . is an astonishing reboot of . You’ll play the role NataDe Cotton of a witch that loves candy. It’s a story that is batshit crazy. You know who wouldn’t be willing to go up against a demonic army in order to get their hands upon a huge version of their favorite snack. Literally everyone. However, there are fairies who need to be saved too so that we can all be happy.
Cotton Reboot! As Silk and Nata’s fairy companions, you will control them as they battle across seven different zones. You will also be using a variety explosive spells to destroy the enemies. All this to collect Willow a special type of fairy magic that resembles boiled sweets. Also, save the fairy realm. Aside from that, there are very few demon-lords to worry so it is not too serious.
Cotton Reboot is an undeniably enjoyable game. If you aren’t worried about gray matter, this is the game for you. This title is fast, fun, and flashy. It has everything you could want in a great shooter. This game is perfect for those who love high scores.
There will be plenty to enjoy for those who just want to finish a game without wasting time or see continuing beyond those allowed continues as absolute heresy. For those of you who are focused on the leaderboards and can complete a title without a hitch, or for those that don’t care too much about them, there might not be enough to keep you interested. I’ll explain this in a moment.
Reboot doesn’t make me feel bad. Does the job it’s meant to, so I’m not complaining about its essence. However, there are some things which might cause problems for some players.
Cotton Reboot! can’t be remembered for its unique gameplay. The story is the first. This is a short game with a few subs. The game itself is good, but it’s not very long. You only see a small amount of the story between levels. It’s not enough to be anything special. Even though I know this is a shooter so it doesn’t need much story, I still wish I had seen more.
You unlock silk as a playable character. Knowing her story would have been enough to satisfy. While I know this is a new game and that it doesn’t have this feature,
I think it would have been an enjoyable addition to the experience and would have added some depth. I’ve basically told you the entire story, except the ending. This is in true Japanese style. This isn’t a problem that will ruin an amazing experience.
Secondly, seven unique zones would be great if we were to play in. Cotton Reboot: has six worlds and the boss fight at the end. I would love to see this level or be forced to fight the boss in multiple stages.
The final fight is not too difficult (if youre not bothered about continued), and the boss is just average so you don’t feel like much of a sense of accomplishment once things get to the crunch.
Although it’s all good, I am not complaining, I would have liked to have seen more. A little bonus: All the boss battles can be fun. Once you have figured out how to transmit the moves, I’m not sure if they’re difficult.
While the last one is not really the game’s fault, it is something that I think should be noted. The graphics are beautiful and the enemies you’ll face are adorable and extremely deadly. Problem is, you move so fast and focus so much on not getting blasted to pieces that you don’t really take in what you have. This is a common issue for shooters. But if you are going to spend all your effort into making your game stunning, it makes sense that the player has enough time to enjoy it.
These are minor things that don’t matter and shouldn’t detract from what is going be a great experience for you. Value for money is perhaps a bigger problem. Reboot! has a price tag of almost PS35.00. I don’t think there’s enough content to warrant that amount. You can enjoy several modes. I found the main Arrange mode to be a very faithful recreation of original game. It was completed with both characters within a couple hours.
Secondly, the X68000 Mode is an arcade classic that offers more difficulty levels and should provide a longer lifespan. These last two are timed so they will be very popular among score-warriors. Even with all that being said, I still think there isn’t enough to justify the price. There are no other in-game achievements or things that unlock badges. Unfortunately, none of these things exist.
Overall, you get a very cute and fun shooter. Everything looks and plays great. Other than the few quirks that I mentioned, there’s not much to complain about. The real problem is the price of these products and how little you get for your money.
Cotton Reboot! If it were half the price, you’d think you were crazy not to try Cotton Reboot! The game had a lot of content. You could get into the gameplay or through unlockables, artbooks and museums. I would declare that the price of the product was very reasonable. In this particular instance,
I can’t say either one of those things. This is a fantastic way to enjoy a nostalgia-filled experience. But, if this title worries you about your finances, then you might reconsider.
